Green Hotels, Green Rooms….& Green Walls?

You can’t swing a recycling bin without hitting a hotel that claims to be green.
In fact, a hotel press release that doesn’t include at least a line or two about environmental initiatives is rare these days. Green even seems to be the predominant interior d?cor color for new hotels. It is a soothing color, but it doesn’t always mean the hotel has green practices.
We travelers love the planet, of course. That’s why we want to see so much of it. But many of us like to keep our carbon footprints as light as possible, and some hotels are going the extra mile to help us do that.
These are hotels that go beyond giving you the option of not having your sheets changed every day — not that that’s a bad thing, but it’s just a start. Numerous hotels are switching to energy-saving lights and low-flow toilets and shower heads. Also popular is an electronic system that knows when you’re out of your room and adjusts the thermostat to save energy.
